Rocketry Design

Project Icarus, a subset of Team Rockets of the Stanford Student Space Initiative (SSI), was striving to develop and implement a reefing parachute recovery system. The goal of the project was to de-reef the parachute as a desired altitude in order to require only a single parachute separation.

The system we developed combines a skirt cord, slider, and pyrotechnic cutter mechanism. I operated as a member of the Mechanical Engineering team as well as co-Project Manager. I developed the concept of operations; worked on the development, construction, and testing of the slider mechanism; and designed structural components of rocket. As co-project manager, I organized, led, and recorded notes from team meetings; enforced deadlines; and managed long-term project goals.
